SPRING 2025 WORKSHOPS ARE HERE!
WATERCOLOR PORTRAIT CLASS
Instructor:
Donna Twyford
Date + Location:
March 8 from 9-2pm
Details:
This workshop is appropriate for all levels of painting experience. You will paint an 11x14 headshot of the person of your choosing or may select from one of my examples. If you are a beginner, it will be best to start with someone you do not know well. Figures and portraits are often intimidating but we will have FUN!
Supply list:
1) 2 – 11x14 sheets of watercolor paper (please, and I beg you, buy 100% cotton artist grade paper!) If you have none, please buy a full sheet from Hobby Lobby (8.99) and bring the whole thing to class. I will show you how to tear it into the proper size and still have the deckle edge. You may use 140lb or 300lb and if you plan to paint a child I suggest hot press paper over cold press.
2) Watercolor brushes, a flat and several rounds in sizes 4-14
3) Paper towels, a plastic cloth for the table and a plastic bag for your trash
4) Graphite paper and a pencil
5) Container for your water
6) A piece of foam board or mdf cut at least 16x20 and masking tape
7) Artist grade paints – most of mine are Daniel Smith, but you may use Holbein, Winsor-Newton, or M Graham. I will be primarily using Quinacridone Gold, Aurelolin Yellow, Quinacridone Rose, Alizarin Crimson, Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue. *If you have trouble sizing your photo, Office Depot or another local printer should be able to do that for you.
An example of what you might choose to watercolor is referenced in the image above; photos taken in bright sunlight cast interesting light and shadow patterns and make for very intriguing paintings.
Cost:
$75 per person
Class Size:
Class minimum is 5 students.
