Adults (18+) with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

This is a 3 Week Camp

Monday - Friday, July 10th - 28th. 2017, 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Cost: $150

Discover more about yourself in all dimensions! Expand your own creativity in the arts: writing, film, drama, visual art, dance and music. Explore your creativity through teamwork and cooperative projects. Learn more about creative problem-solving in the social sphere.

Camp Location: The Dixie - Academic Enrichment Center

4th-8th Grades

This is a 4 Day Camp

Monday – Thursday,  June 19th - 22nd, 2017,   12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Cost: $85

Students will explore the Elements of Art while learning fundamental techniques in drawing. They will be introduced to basic design, color theory, art history, art vocabulary, and various drawing media including graphite, charcoal, and pen & ink. Through demonstration, hands-on application, and seeing examples of artists’ work, the students will broaden their knowledge of technical skills and of artists and art movements.

Limit of 10 students

5th - 8th Grade Students on Autism Spectrum (High Functioning)

This is a 3 Week Camp

Monday - Friday, July 10th - 28th, 2017,  1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Cost: $150

Students will develop friendships, learn how to hold conversations, explore ways of building relationships. We will work with video, music, art and other creative ways of learning how to work and have fun with others.

Limit of 6 students

1 Week Camp - Choose either the June Camp OR  July Camp

June Camp: Monday - Friday,  June 5th - June 9th , 2017

  • PreK-K Grades:   3:30 pm -  4:30 pm
  • 1st-2nd Grades:   2:00 pm -  3:00 pm
  • 3rd-4th Grades:  12:30 pm -  1:30 pm
  • 5th-8th Grades:  10:00 am - 11:00 am

July Camp: Monday - Friday,  July 10th - 14th, 2017

Classes will consist of an introduction to basic pottery skills of pinching, coil-building, slab construction, and throwing on the potter’s wheel. The student will also be introduced to various glazing and firing processes.

This is a 1 Week Camp

Monday - Friday, June 26th - 30th 2017,  3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Cost: $85

When it comes to taking an excellent photograph, did you know that the camera is far less important than the one holding it? It's true. Over these five days you will experience how to SEE more creatively. You will use your imagination to go beyond selfies and capture truly fascinating photographs. The digital photography summer camp is a guaranteed great time, and it might just change the way you see the world around you.

Special note **Digital Cameras will be provided for this camp!

Thursday, Friday, Saturday ONLY - June 29, 30 & July 1, 2017

Thursday and Friday: 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Saturday: 9:00 am - 11:30 am

Cost: $85

Amazing photographs happen when your heart, mind and eye work together. Yes, the camera does play a role, but the primary ingredients are your own creativity and imagination. During these three sessions you will be challenged to see your subjects in new ways, and to make images from a fresh, new perspective. Current trends and the exciting challenges found in photography will be a part of each session. You will not just be sitting on the sidelines listening to presentations. You will be involved in projects that will help you see beyond the surface of the world around you. This camp is for photographers of any skill level. Whether you've just begun or have been using your digital camera for years, the camp will move you forward in your pursuit of finer photographs.

Students are responsible for having own digital photo taking device. (point-and-shoot, DSLR or cell phone camera)

Camp Location: The Dixie - Academic Enrichment Center

This is a 1 Week Camp

3rd-12th Grades

Monday - Friday, July 17th - 21st, 2017,  9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Cost: $250

School of Rock, Nashville is partnering with The Dixie for this awesome summer Rock'N'Roll Camp!  Students will experience what it's like to be in a Rock'N'Roll Band! They will learn how to be a team player/band member, build confidence, meet some great new friends, and most importantly HAVE FUN making music! Group rehearsal, music trivia, song casting, one-on-one attention from instructors, gear education and band-related activities are all aimed at helping kids learn a new set of songs and be totally ready to rock them by the end of the week! All levels of musical experience are welcome, whether you play drums, sing, shred guitar or bass or play keyboard - you will have a blast! 

This one week camp culminates in a full on rock concert by the students on Friday, July 21st at 7:00 pm. 

Students bring bottled water and a packed lunch each day.

No cancellations. Limit 20 students.

1st-9th Grades

This is a 2 Week Camp

Week 1: Monday – Friday,  June 12th - 16th, 2017,  9:00 am - 11:00 am

Week 2: Monday – Thursday,  June 19th - 22nd, 2017,  9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free Public Performance of "Honk! JR" on:  Thurs., June 22, 2017 at 7:00 pm. This is a 2 week theatre camp with Registration and Auditions on Thursday, June 1 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. Registation/Auditions are come and go during that timeframe. Students need to audition if interested in a lead part, not all students have to audition. Those auditioning should have a short acapella song prepared and plan to read from the script provided.  

Cost: $100

This summer the Dixie Youth Theatre will present "Honk! JR." - a heartwarming celebration of being different, based on the story of "The Ugly Duckling." Along with a whole flock of unique characters, Ugly sets out on an adventure of self-discovery and finds out what makes us special is what sets us apart. Through teamwork, we will put together a musical production in a short amount of time. Participants will be coached in music learning and performance techniques, choreography, singing, character development, and staging. Our time together will culminate with a performance on the Dixie stage. Dixie Youth Theatre shirt included!

4th-8th Grades

This is a 1 Week Camp

Monday - Friday, July 24th - 28th, 2017,  3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Cost: $85

A hands-on camp where students will develop practical woodworking skills by building a variety of fun and useful projects under the direction of a professional carpenter. With an emphasis on hand tool safety, lessons will include measuring, sawing, drilling, sanding, shaping and assembly. Along with practical skills, students will also utilize abstract reasoning, applied mathematics, problem solving, craftsmanship, fine motor skills, respect for tools and patience. At the completion of the camp, students will be empowered by their skills learned and finished projects for years to come!

  • Classes may fill early so don't wait to sign up.
  • Special note: Theatre Camp has auditions on June 1 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. Registation/Auditions are come and go during that timeframe.  All students need to audition to be cast. All students WILL be cast in a role. The student will need to have a short song prepared and will read from the script. Contact us if unable to audition.
  • Parents please use the grade your child will be in for Fall 2017 school year.  
  • Entrance for these camps will all be at the lower level of The Dixie except Mudslingers Pottery Camp and Woodworking Camp will be at Mudslingers Pottery Studio.

Participant Rules

  1. Participants are expected to arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before class is scheduled to begin. The teacher needs time in between classes to clean and prepare for the next class.
  2. Parents/guardians must be prompt in the pickup of students.
  3. No food, gum, or drink is allowed at The Dixie or in the Mudslingers studio.
  4. Please notify the instructor if you will be missing a class. Projects that take place during your absence can not be made up.
  5. The Dixie reserves the right to dismiss and not enroll participants for the following reasons: financial account not current, disruptive behavior, disrespect to the instructor, disregard to instructions, and possession of tobacco, alcohol, drugs or weapons.
