Steinway Piano
Dedicated at The Dixie

“Caleb Harris” – Mr. Harris plays the new piano for the audience
to enjoy. He stated, “I chose this music specifically for this
evening – I wanted to showcase this instrument’s amazing
capabilities for the audience.”
(HUNTINGDON; April 30, 2007) – The Dixie Carter
Performing Arts Center officially dedicated their new Model B
Steinway; seven-foot piano on Friday, April 27 during a free
community concert. Huntingdon Mayor Dale Kelley opened the
evening’s dedication ceremony stating, “Tonight we gather to
celebrate the lives well lived of Neill and Bela Wright AND to
dedicate the beautiful Steinway Grand Piano seen right here on
this stage. This magnificent model B seven foot piano was
purchased for The Dixie by the Wright Charitable Trust from the
Steinway Gallery located in Nashville, TN. We are thankful to
the Wright family for establishing this fund for the betterment
of the Town of Huntingdon and to Carroll Bank & Trust for
managing this legacy. I am especially proud of the many
different opportunities seen and projects undertaken by the
Trust throughout the Town of Huntingdon. The Wright Charitable
Trust has now set the standard for future gifts to The Dixie. It
was gifts such as this that enabled the dream of a performing
arts center in Huntingdon, TN to become a reality, and it is
gifts such as this that will sustain The Dixie for years to
come.”

“Piano Dedication” – Mike Cary, Carroll Bank & Trust President;
Dale Kelley, Town of Huntingdon Mayor; Billy Tines, Carroll Bank
& Trust Chairman of the Board; Joyce Crocker, Carroll Bank &
Trust Senior Vice President/Cashier; Lee Warren, The Dixie
Executive Director; Caleb Harris; Stanley Warren.
The Mayor then introduced Billy Tines, Chairman of the Board of
Carroll Bank & Trust, to the podium. Mr. Tines spoke about Neill
and Bela Wright and their commitment to the community and also
spoke about the Wright Charitable Trust, “Doc and Bela left this
trust to the Town of Huntingdon for the betterment of their
community. They could have given their money to one of many
different organizations, but they chose this town – their home –
to leave their legacy… this is one of the best investments in
the future of our community made by the Wright Charitable
Trust.”
Mayor Kelley then returned to the podium and announced their
will be a plaque place on the piano and it will read:
In Memory of
Neill A. “Doc” & Bela Wright

“Patchwork” The Little House Quilts of Laura Ingalls Wilder
Presented at The Dixie
95th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts Celebrated
(HUNTINGDON; April 30, 2007) – On Saturday, May 12th, The Dixie
will present “Patchwork” The Little House Quilts of Laura
Ingalls Wilder – a biographical play about the pioneer life of
Laura Ingalls Wilder. Tickets are still available for the 4:00
p.m. show at $10/ticket. There is no reserved seating for this
event; tickets may be purchased on a first-come, first-serve
basis at The Dixie Box Office the day of the show ONLY.
In Theatre IV’s pioneer adventure, Laura Ingalls Wilder and her
family relive the hardships and triumphs of their adventures on
America’s frontier as recorded in the patterns of their
patchwork quilts. “The Rocky Road to Kansas” recalls their
journey west to stake a land claim under the Homestead Act of
1862. Their hope for a better life and sense of adventure
sustain them on their long and dangerous trip, whether slipping
and sliding in their covered wagon across the frozen Mississippi
or almost overturning in the turbulent waters of a roaring
creek. “The Log Cabin” pattern reminds them of how Ma and Pa,
with the help of Mr. Edwards, built their log cabin by hand,
their own “Little House on the Prairie.” Their courageous
pioneer spirit, faith and love of family sustain them as
hardships and disappointments force them to return to Minnesota
where, as the “Dugout” pattern reminds them, they move to their
most unusual house – a dugout in the bank of Plum Creek - where
Laura meets a most unusual girl, Nellie Oleson.

Highly Acclaimed Political Satirists Visit The Dixie

(HUNTINGDON; April 30, 2007) – Washington D.C. comes to
Huntingdon, Tennessee when the Capitol Steps visit The Dixie on
Tuesday, May 22 at 7:30 p.m. Slated as a benefit performance for
The Dixie, the Capitol Steps promise a laughter-filled evening
of entertainment.
What started off, over a decade ago, as co-workers entertaining
each other at a Capitol Hill Christmas party has since turned
into a Washington institution. Capitol Steps, whose cast members
are all either current or former congressional staffers, provide
an amazingly clever, politically-oriented musical revue that is
sure to liven up any convention gathering.
The Capitol Steps, the only group in America that attempts to be
funnier than Congress, is a troupe of former Congressional
staffers who travel the country satirizing the very people that
once employed them.
Over the past twenty-five years, the Capitol Steps have recorded
twenty- six albums, and appeared on "Good Morning America," the
"Today Show," "20/20," "Entertainment Tonight," "Nightline,"
CNN's "Inside Politics," and dozens of times on National Public
Radio's "All Things Considered." For the past fifteen years,
they've produced quarterly specials for public radio and have
been featured in three national specials for public television.
All members of the cast have worked on Capitol Hill; for
Democrats, Republicans and, and politicians who sit on the
fence. Many stars and politicians, some of whom have been
targets themselves, have performed with the troupe: Vice
President Al Gore, Larry King, Pat Robertson, Surgeon General
Koop, Mike Dukakis, and President Bush to name a few. In fact
the Steps have performed for Presidents Ford, Reagan, Bush, and
Clinton.
Although the Steps are based in Washington, DC, ninety percent
of their performances are out-of-town or for out-of-town
audiences. Whether it's the National Welding Supply Association,
a University audience, high-schoolers, or Senators, audiences
love to laugh at the Steps' political practical pokes at public
figures such as Bill Clinton booking the Lincoln Bedroom at his
White House Hotel (to the tune of Elvis' "Heartbreak Hotel") or
Bob Dole singing It's Not Easy Being Mean. Even Paula Jones gets
heard as she pleads Evita-style in front of the Supreme Court
Don't Cry for Me Judge Scalia! The only complaints come from
politicians and personalities who are not included in the
program!
All tickets for the “Capitol Steps” benefit performance are $50.
For ticket information, contact The Dixie box office at
731-986-2100 or order online at www.dixiepac.net. See you at The Dixie!
