SUMMER CAMPS at The Dixie- Sign Up Now!

If you are looking for fun and educational activities for your child this summer, The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center is offering an array of SUMMER CAMPS.  Classes for Youth Theatre, Creative Writing, Kindermusik, and Mudslingers Pottery will be available.

Youth Theatre Camp will be filled with fun games and activities that will allow the students to explore their creative imaginations.  All classes will focus on imaginative play, improvisation, movement, voice exercises, and theatre games.  More focus will be put in different concentrated areas depending on the age level.  The summer workshop will be centered on giving the students’ theatre experience.  The students will end the week with a well rounded, basic knowledge of theatre and acting techniques.  Jade Johnson will be the instructor.

May 24-28 (Mon. – Fri.)
5-7 year olds: 8:00 a.m. – 10 a.m.
8-12 year olds: 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
13-18 year olds: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Cost: $100.00

Creative Writing Camp will consist of diving into the world of creative writing before you dive into the swimming pool this summer.  Every word (whether spoken or on paper) can be the start of an amazing adventure.  Students will enjoy imaginative, stimulating, and creative fun designed to enhance their understanding of storytelling; followed by a Celebration Exhibition.  All students will be instructed, according to age level, on what makes a story – character, plot, setting, imagery, etc…Famous literary works will also be looked at and incorporated into each lesson.  Classes will be conducted by Hillari Baker.

June 14-18 (Mon. – Fri.)
K-1st Grade: 9:00 a.m. – 10 a.m.
2nd-3rd Grade: 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
4th-12th Grade: 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Cost: $85.00

Mudslingers Pottery Camps will consist of learning and using basic pottery skills of pinching, coil-building, slab construction, and throwing no the potter’s wheel.  The students will also be using various glazing and firing processes.  A showcase of the students work will occur to showcase the work and be available for pickup.  Classes will be taught at Mudslingers Studio – Annex of the Dixie located across the court square from the Dixie.  Two Sessions will be available during the summer: May 24-28 or June 14-18.

Pre-K: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
K-1st Grade: 10:30 – 12:00 p.m.
2nd-4th Grade: 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
5th – 8th Grade: 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Cost: $85.00

Kindermusik Summer Camps

Kindermusik Summer Camps include music, instrument play, activities, storytelling, crafts, snacks and more with fun, summery themes you can sing and dance your way through. Take a ride on the Zoo Train for 1.5 to 3 year olds or bring your story loving child to Tell Me A Tale for 4 to 8 year olds. All class are a week long and include At Home Materials that consist of books, posters, instruments, and music CD's for every child. This Weekend at The Dixie – An Evening with Carroll Arts

An Evening of Carroll Arts will take place at The Dixie this Saturday, June 12th – doors open to view the visual art at 6:00 p.m. with entertainment beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

An Evening with Carroll Arts showcases the local talents of visual and performing artists; artwork will be displayed throughout The Dixie, and the performing artists will take the stage in the Hal Holbrook Theatre singing, playing instruments, and performing theatrical works.

Carroll Arts, Inc. was organized on June 21, 1994 as a rural, non-profit community organization with the following beliefs: The need to foster an appreciation of our diverse artistic and cultural heritage; Recognition of the contributions of artists to our community; The challenge to increase accessibility to artistic and cultural opportunities; The opportunity to serve as an arts education guide; The obligation to foster excellence in artistic achievement; and The desire to generate awareness of issues and concerns for the arts of our area.

Little David Wilkins and Wynn Varble at The Dixie this month for The Fun on the Farm Jamboree!

Don’t miss the next The Fun on The Farm Jamboree scheduled for Saturday, June 19th at 2:00 p.m. and headlined by Little David Wilkins with special guest, Wynn Varble, a few songs by Vickie Raye, and the house band Double Edge.
Little David Wilkins career started with a song which he wrote for Brenda Lee, Coming on Strong. The song has been recorded by twenty-six artists and has sold over five million records and counting. Wilkins has written almost one hundred songs, which have been recorded and released by such stars as Barbara Mandrell, Charlie Pride, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley, and many more. He has had his own National Top Ten Hits and several Top Twenty Hits such as, One monkey Don't Stop No Show, Butter Beans, and The Good Night Special. Don’t miss your opportunity to see the return of this rockabilly superstar to The Dixie Stage.
Also returning to The Dixie is songwriter, Wynn Varble.  You may remember him from the Joey and Rory concert at the Dixie in early 2010.  This comedic storyteller in song delighted the audience and left everyone awaiting his return. You know him best as the songwriter who won the Song of the Year for the Brad Paisley No. 1, “Waitin’ on a Woman.”  Varble’s first No. 1 came in 2003 with “Have You Forgotten,” recorded by Darryl Worley. 

The Fun on the Farm Jamboree is a 2 hour, live on the radio, fun-filled country music extravaganza featuring great entertainers the entire family will enjoy. Come spend an afternoon at The Dixie with a variety of performers sure to delight the young and old alike! Tickets for The Fun on The Farm Jamboree are $12/person.
